The truth is people don’t provide easy to read and readily analyzable structured data that fits perfectly with your traditional KPI’s. Because humans react to human emotion, you have to consider how “non-measurable” variables are impacting your team’s performance.

Moving away from the traditional indicators, a recent article by Caroline Gasc argues that argues that “there are fast, yet efficient and sustainable ways to aim at Peak Performance and Growth and it all starts by measuring the current situation.”

Gasc’s method is built from TCI’s (Team Coaching International) two dimensional approach (each measured by 7 Performance Indicators). Basically, there is the Team Positivity and Team Performance. The intersection between the two is where you reach “Peak performance”

But… How do you promote peak performance?

Collect your team’s performance score

Well, as the article points out, if you don’t measure it, you can’t manage it and you certainly can’t change it. You can start promoting peak performance by collecting your team’s performance score, which you then communicate to the whole team.

Even if you know where the team is performing well and where they need to improve, if you don’t share it with them you can’t expect them to change! Thus, it is important to encourage communication and collaboration; which allows for a better understanding of areas for improvement. It can also lead the team to come up with their own improvement suggestions.

Next, while team performance is important to measure, it is essential to identify and implement the action plan to foster your team’s engagement to reach your higher goals. Once you have started to implement your improvement actions, you have to make sure they are delivering the expected result. You should certainly also incorporate others indicators as Team’s Performance indicators are not the only ones impacting your overall performance.

And remember, this is more a journey than a destination. You’re now “en route” for continuous improvement!
